Good Morning to Everyone this is a new day with the Lord. Pastor Doug is doing well. The service for his Dad was yesterday, another memorial today and then the healing process starts. Pastor will be here on Sunday so come out to hear him preach and support his return.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 8:38-39)

Shady Hills UMC is embarking on a Community of Christ Outreach Ministry. Our mission is to improve the Shady Hills community through faith and education by joining the Pasco County School System, Pasco Hernando State College and Project 25/35. Our goal is to provide the support needed for individuals in the community to acquire the necessary education to obtain gainful employment and adequately care for themselves and their families.

In order to combat the almost insurmountable barriers created by the lack of a High School Diploma, no transportation, homelessness and financial hardship, we are developing a program that meets on our campus.

  • PHSC is providing L.I.F.E./GED Classes which focus on teaching skills necessary for success in life and in earning a GED. They are also providing advisers to help students to obtain money for college once they have passed the GED.

  • The Pasco County School Board is providing a pathway for students under 18 to take the GED and,

  • Project 25/35 is providing some needed supplies such as food and miscellaneous items.

Although the Shady Hills Outreach Program can provide students with a convenient location, a computer lab, TABE and GED tutors, L.I.F.E classes, babysitting services and food at no cost, we are unable to cover the cost of the TABE and GED tests. The cost of approximately $250 per student is set by State law. This amount is prohibitive for most of our clients. Without a diploma or GED Certificate, these non-high school graduates have little opportunity to reach their individual goals and improve their lives.

We are reaching out to our community to help cover the costs for these tests. If you are interested in helping to support this program financially, or if you know of someone who needs these services, please call SHUMC Office at 727-856-2948, and Marry Ann Kussmaul will help you to help us change lives.

Donations will be greatly appreciated and can be sent to the church made payable to "Shady Hills UMC". Please indicate on the check it is for the "GED Testing" program. Your support is vital and will significantly enrich the lives of people in this community who need a little help.

Thank for you for your help in advance.
